Juma is Owen Johnston, one of Northern Ireland's leading new DJs and Producers. Inspired by people like Jean Michele Jarre, Kraftwerk, Michael Jackson, Ferry Corsten, Paul Van Dyk and Ulster's own X-Ray, Owen has been developing his sound that encompass Trance, Progressive and Minimal. Like other DXR artists Brian Taaffe Owen Johnston fuses Minimal and Trance with aplomb and dare we claim credit but creates Nu Minimal Trance.
Sidewinder is a deep, dark track from Owen aka Juma and shows off his studio skills and dance floor acumen, however, the remixes are simply irresistible.
The Photosonic Orchestra and Nachklangmusik offer two of the best tunes ever on DXR and DXR's very own JR drops a bobshell of an abstract almost beatless version that all adds up to 4 cracking track release.

Special Feature: A showing of "Dublin - The Movie".

Commissioned as part of the Darklight Festival, the film was shot entirely between 12.01am to 11.59pm on Thursday, June 26th 2008. 30 filmmaking teams or individuals made the movies composing this film. The participants were invited guests and feature a selection of the best artistic talent in Ireland. Director Lenny Abrahamson (”Garage”) curated the film and remixed the edit in 4 days.

'Whirly Gig'

From 6.30pm until 1.30am, patrons will witness a unique audiovisual outdoor spectacle in the heart of the city with leading international DJs from Bristol, Japan and Italy including headliner DJ Cheeba (Ninja Tunes, Detectives of Perspective) and pioneers of 'colour sound' on the Asian scene The Photosonic Orchestra (featuring the first European set by original member DJ Vika hot off his tour of Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan) showcasing the new audiovisual dance experience that’s setting the clubs of New York, London, Berlin & Tokyo alight. With live performances including the incendiary fusion of rock and dance of Noise Control, an exclusive Amazing Few Neon Show by the masters of infectious PsychoPOP, the melodic yet robotic Botheads, Mandolin Man (the world's most famous mandolin player!) Robotnik and bellydancing madness, Whirly Gig is set to be the psychedelic dance event of the summer, with a full bar provided by Porterhouse and the square roofed over to ensure the reliability of an indoor event combined with the buzz of an outdoor gig. Description : for the first time ever, the 23rd of August will take the reunion of the AV duo known as 'PHOTOSONIK'; founded during 2005 in Tokyo, JP, by me and DJ Vika, it was one of the first acts in Asia to explore the so called 'color sound' experience (music that creates visuals in real time using music instruments and sound mixers). One year before I had even started to put together the 'Photosonic' movie project, I was experimenting with keyboards and synth guitars, performing live as resident act with DJ Vika in places like MOJOs and Heartland, both key venues in the Tokyo VJ scene.

Below an excerpt of an AV rehearsal I did with Vika over the internet, while trying some new stuff during past week.

From 28th to 31st of May 2009, at Brancaleone in Rome, will take place the seventh edition of LPM - Live Performers Meeting: International encounter of live video performers, visual artists and vj meeting, dedicated to live video performances.
The Rome 2008 edition, followed in September by a special mexican edition, registered the partecipation of 257 artists from: Algeria, Argentina, Austria, France, Germany, Japan, Guatemala, UK, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary. 142 shows and performances gave life to the 900 square meters of the Macello IV - Mattatoio di Testaccio, setup during the four days with 13 beamers and screens. This edition will take place in brand-new exclusive location, the historical Brancaleone. Its spaces perfectly fit the needs of the Meeting, which during this years has definetely enlarged its range of contents, artists and audience. LPM will again use its 4-day formula, creating a unique and unforgettable event, which every year grants a program full of workshops and showcases of projects, softwares and brand- new products.

LIVE VIDEO is the main focus of the four days and each day is highly characterized by the
diverse themes and scenes contributing to the event.


BREAKBEAT + TECHNO + ELECTRO (feat. Julyo)

Video performances and vj sets are typically found flowing with the intense sounds and the relentless beats of electronic club music. And you'll find that here too, imagery following and interpreting the rhythm of the freshest Breakbeat and Drum n'bass, and from 2am to 4am going with the pulsating Techno and Electro sounds.

The salon follows the Dublin premier of 'A Sliver of Voice' ('Un Hilo De Voz'), the experimental musical show by the Buenos Aires performer Maia Monaco and composer Guillermo Pesoa, to be performed in the Project Arts Centre at 1:00 pm (tickets are €7/€5).

The salon will feature musical performances of Pesoa's new solo work on piano and accordion, and with vocalist Maia Monaco, in dialogue with the international styles and sounds of Italian and Irish special guests, in an intimate and relaxed environment.Pesoa's new compositions fuse elements of traditional Argentinian styles such as chamamé, tango and cumbia with a unique and melancholic sound all his own. As part of the group 'Pequeña Orquesta Reincidentes', Pesoa has released eight albums and received multiple awards in his native Argentina, and played at the Spiegeltent during the 2006 Dublin Fringe Festival.

Special guests performing on the night include Robotnik, Maria Tecce, pianist Alberto Gariglio and Julyo and the Photosonic Orchestra.
