“A visionary songwriter... he spins enigmatic fantasies of both skid row Americana and mythological Italy in a grittily elegant cabaret-jazz style.” - The New York Times
A larger-than-life character on the Italian music scene, Vinicio Capossela (born in Hannover, Germany, 1965) boasts an extraordinary career dating back to 1990. Capossela's world evolved from American underground culture and the ‘road myth’ - namely Jack Kerouac, Charles Bukowski and Tom Waits - as well as the Italian exoticism embodied by the legendary Luis Prima in the US, or Renato Carosone in Italy. The rebetiko music comes from a catastrophe, from a major crisis and from a massive migration and it has always had a subversive content.
The rebetiko music talks about what we lost, it’s a music that does not forget its origins. It is played indoors, where you can drink and think about your personal pains. It's a kind of music that is shared at the table, like an “eucarestia”.
Vinicio Capossela will be with the great Rebetiko musicians: Vassilis Massalas on guitar and baglama, Ntino Chatziiordanou on Farfisa organ and accordion, Dimitri Emmanouil on percussion, bouzouki player Manolis Pappos. Completing the organic: Ace Alessandro Stefana (guitar) Glauco Zuppiroli (bass).
“The color sound merchants: Photosonic Orchestra!” - Hot Press Magazine
“One of the most innovative artists of his generation” - New York Post
Supporting act will be provided by another visionary Italian artist, the Genoa-born Award winner guitar player Julyo and his Photosonic Orchestra (with a brand new “contemporary-folk” line up performing a mix of Italian folk tarantellas and World grooves). Julyo has also recorded and toured in Europe, USA and Asia with Armando Corsi (Paco de Lucia), Mike Mangini (Steve Vai, Extreme), Mark Mangold (Cher, Michael Bolton), Michael Maccini (Simple Minds) and Keith Patchel (Television). Julyo is the inventor of the “Photosonic Guitar” the first music instrument to translate sound into colors.
Julyo will be with the amazing Photosonic Orchestra: Vimbai “Vee” on saxophone and African piano from Zimbabwe, Bogdan Rusin from Poland on viola, Irish trad flute / harmonica player Dowie Mooney, Laura Ann Brady on auto harp and vocals, French percussionist Francois “FX” Ruellan and Italian guitarrist Luca.
